It became the catalyst to the Board to plan and develop Petaling Jaya in line with Government's liberal policy towards development. In the space of two decades, Petaling Jaya had become a satellite town which is the most richest and biggest in this state. As the first planned town in Malaysia, Petaling Jaya had achieved a glorious success, fitting its name ‘JAYA' (Success) and is constantly busy with activities as well as proud with its achievements. Petaling Jaya had become a well-known industrial area in this country and is developing in its own way.

On January 1st, 1977, the Petaling Jaya Municipal Board was elevated to the status of Petaling Jaya Municipal Council (MPPJ) following the legislation of the Local Government Act 1976 by the SS Area government (numbered sections in the Sg Way/Subang districts) along with other new areas such as Subang Jaya, Seksyen 52 (Newton) were combined to form on municipal area under MPPJ.

From a town that was planned to be a Small Town to accommodate the overcrowding in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya had become a Developed Town. In the pursuit of modernization and development at that time, the residents had taken part in commerce and trade towards increasing their quality of life.
